ok, so i set out last night to try a safer area to try this on (got it all over my face the last time) and i escaped almost without any other smear's on me - except my drawing hand..

i thought i'd embellish it a little with henna....
and i'm sure it needs a few more hours to oxidize completly, as this is was taken just after i removed all the paste.. :)

i found - working with a j-bottle was a bit easier than the cone.. or maybe it was just a fluke.. i'm a cone person myself.. so i donno..

Cheers
Christine

It's beautiful! :D Can't wait to see it when the henna and jagua develops. How did you find working with both? Did you apply the henna when the jagua was still on your skin, and remove both products together... or did you do them in succession?

Funny how you like cones for henna, but got on better with a bottle for jagua, I think the message here is 'whatever works' and from this picture its clear, the bottle is definitely working for you!

Thanks Aileen;
i first did the jagua - and then pulled out the henna cone.. and then when i realized i was falling asleep waiting for it to dry (lol) i put some paper tape on it.. and a sock.. and went to bed at 11... woke up this morning at 7- and pulled all the tape off which took most of the jagua and henna off- and then gave it a rinse.. and voila.. :)
its already gotten alot darker since this mornings photo - but not enough i dont think to notice on camera...
and yes.. although working with the j-bottle made a major difference for me.. its darn murder on my hand.. but obviously better..lol

thanks :)

You are so much braver than I am, sleeping with jagua on. I've certainly fallen asleep plenty of times over the years with henna on, but I'm too chicken to do it with jagua. I'm scared of hours of work ending up as a smeary inky stain, obviously, you are a delicate sleeper... and/or a good henna wrapper!

Good tip, when you say 'paper tape' is that like the medical porous tape? I've used that over the years for marking out big tribal work, sort of using it to mask out areas before applying henna / body paint / jagua. I never thought of using it to wrap henna

Funny though, when you said peeling it off removed most of the jagua... it reminded me of one of my more painful jagua memories. I'd done a delicate design on my lower arm, and my husband had done some big traditional jagua on his arm... He had some insulation tape lying around on the coffee table (we taped our cones closed with it) and decided that he'd try using the tape to remove his jagua - save him peeling it of in little bits. So, typically, he pressed a few strips of tape onto his arm and peeled it back, and removed pretty much all his jagua in one easy move. So, I thought I'd try it to... OUCH  I'm never going there again!!! I think I spent a lot longer precisely laying down strips of tape, and pressing them firmly onto my arm, thinking of all those annoying little bits of jagua that usually take ages to get off... The insulation tape is also way stickier than medical tape, and probably not the right sort of adhesive to use on the body either.. I had one red arm for hours, it removed all the jagua, and all the little hairs that I didn't much notice before then  ...Live and learn

the paper tape i use is 3M Micropore surgical paper tape - i purchase it from http://www.dragon-fly-designs.ca/shop-other.html - it is great stuff! - i never thought of using it to mask off area's what a great idea!

your tape/jagua removal esperience sounds extreamly painful!!OUCH -> wont catch me doing that! the micropore paper tape i can almost describe as - soft cotten fibers woven to make a strip - with a very light tack adhesive backing - it is sticky but isnt like "waxing" your body.. its pretty painless to remove.. and holds everything in place.
i find though (good and bad) on warm days (or warm bodied people) the paper tape really forms well to you- and the design and it can be difficult to "find the edge"

over the years of doing henna.. this is my favorite method for my palm too- since i find that if i use the tp and sock method - i still manage to clench my hand into a fist and make a big mess... or my hand sweats and the paste adheres to the tp and i is a real pain to remove... so i use the paper tape - everything holds in place.. i dont have to worry about anything, and it all just peels off perfectly

i also like those little cotton gloves you get at the doller store or where have you (atleast here in canada) i'll use those at night too..

3m, thats the stuff I use for masking off for big designs. I first thought of it just coz I have lots of it around (when I learned to tattoo, I was taught to tape clingfilm over the tattoo with it) and it seemed like a plan to speed up some big work by masking off bands etc... I've attached a piccie of a sleeve I did - even with the tape the bands don't look too straight :? makes it even more amazing when you look at hand tattooed Polynesian linework, wow!

3m - another funny story... Way back in 1994/5 we had a stand at a salon trade show and during the course of the event we did the ususal henna designs:- some hands and feet, a lot of flowers and small Indian pieces, a few tribal tattoo style designs, lots of Japanese Kanjee, and ofcourse the usual special requests for names and hearts & scrolls and hand sketched abstract stuff etc... Then this one lady asked for '3m' on her chest...? Obviously curiosity got the better of me, I had no idea what 3m was back then, and so I asked her if she wanted to say what it meant. She roared with laughter and explained 3m was a big company that made everything from Floppy disks (remember them LOL) to medical supplies etc, she said her husband worked for 3m and that she wasn't getting much attention since he worked for them... So she thought that having 3m hennaed on her chest might just get his attention
